 http://www.musicthinktank.com/blog/20-sneaky-rules-about-being-in-a-band-that-no-one-ever-told.html

Staying in a band or group long-term is tough - taking on a group of friends and co-workers who are all responsible for each others' collective musical fate is impossible for most bands to maintain long-term, and the breakup of a band can ruin everything you've put into it - including your relationship with band mates.

Our friends over at MUSIC THINK TANK recently posted a great list of unofficial "rules" to keep in mind, which can extend and improve the life of your band and your music.

Artist Spotlight - From Ashes to New

From Ashes to New is a rapcore/hard rock band that hails from Central Pennsylvania where such greats as Live, Fuel, Halestorm, and August Burns Red. Some might say there is something in the water, but From Ashes to New is an amalgamation of decades of experience in the local scene come together in what can only be described as a "super group" of bands past. Each member grew up in the local scene together playing their local bands to years later arrive together on this project which they believe is the pinnacle of the music aspirations they've been thriving for their whole lives.

From Ashes to New is a six piece band that is produced, recorded and engineered by Grant McFarland out of Atrium Audio in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Grant, an accomplished musician and producer in his own right, is regarded to be the seventh member of the band. The band has received much critical acclaim in it's infancy via social media outlets and satellite radio prior to even dropping their newly released 5 song EP via CD Baby on iTunes and Amazon.com. While some attempt to compare the sound of From Ashes to New to other existing bands, after listening to their songs from front to back one cannot claim that the band is like any other. The songwriting, melody composition, and complex drum/vocal rhythms of the songs speak for themselves with the lyrical content being nothing short of impressive.

From Ashes to New's message in all of their songs is that positive inspiration can be derived from all negativity no matter how harrowing life's obstacles may feel. In a genre where it feels negativity and despair seem to be in the forefront of most modern hard rock acts these days, From Ashes to New shines as one of few that stand out in that respect. With  uplifting lyrics in the vein of self betterment, From Ashes to New looks to capture the attention of listeners from all walks of music.

-Describe your sound in one ramble on sentence
From Ashes to New sound is influenced by music itself. Combining many different genres into one, FATN looks to stand out from the crowd, but make you feel as if you've known them all along.

-What inspires you to make music?
Our inspiration to write, create, and perform music comes from everyday struggles. We believe that music was created for people to use to relate to and heal themselves. We just want to make sure that everyone knows that they do have a voice and it's ok to be yourself.

-What aspect of making music excites you the most right now?
The most exciting aspect of making music at the moment is our ultimate goal to convey a message. Ever since we've hit the scene (4 months ago) our message has steadily gained ground and is continuing to change lives. If we could have changed just one life our goal would've been complete, but now we're touching thousands.

-What aspect of making music gets you the most discouraged?
There our not many things that discourage us at this point in our careers. We've been doing this a long time (collectively). If there was one thing, we guess it would be that sometimes music is not about what it should be about. Just be real.

-Is there a particular song or musical passage that never fails to move you emotionally?
Nothing in particular that we can think of.

-What's one of your all-time favorite recordings?
All time favorite recordings, we'd have to go with Breaking Benjamins first album "Saturate." Absolutely ground breaking at the time.

-Name three people who have influenced your music, and tell us why- Living or dead.
(Matt)-My grandmother is the biggest influence to me in everything I do. She was a saint during her time upon this earth and she did her best to re-ensure me on a regular basis that it's best to be yourself. It took me a long time to realize what she was trying to do, but now that I'm a little bit older I understand and am forever indebted to her for that.
We are also influenced by people in general. If it wasn't for everyday people we wouldn't have anything to write about.
Lastly would have to be another general answer. Musicians in general. From the beginning of time until now. Through music we can tell stories (good and bad), we can relate to one another, and ultimately we can save lives! That is truly influential.

-Do you have any recent or upcoming projects you'd like to share with us? Tell us about it.
We have a lot of big things in the works for 2014, so it's best to just follow us and keep an eye out! ;)

-What do you like the most about Radio Airplay?
Radio Airplay is extremely user friendly (for bands and patrons) and it gives the listener the ability to vote for what they like and don't like. It's nice to have such an easy tool at your disposal.

Interesting story about you, or anything extra you'd like to add?
From Ashes to New is comprised of members that were once sharing the stage with one another, but in total separate bands. We've all played the same shows, the same venues, the same stages, on the same nights. After years of grinding it out in our former bands, we finally decided to call it quits. It took years and many other projects until we all finally united to form what we like to call our own personal "super group." If we only would have seen the big picture years ago! :) Our other bands had to burn to the ground for us to become From Ashes to New.
